Overload

On a long business assignment in Newcastle I arranged to fly from Heathrow every Monday morning.

One Friday evening there was a long delay. An announcement stated that if boarding cards were presented at the desk, meal vouchers would be issued.

I collected the boarding cards from my small group of five and claimed the vouchers. Those same boarding cards were passed to another member of the group who collected a further batch of vouchers. Some were exchanged for food, others for drinks.

When we took off and the pilot announced:  “There are 123 passengers on this plane but we have issued 360 meal vouchers. Enjoy the flight!”
